• Wall of Art Launches Floral Scarves

    Written by Ulrika Lindqvist

The Swedish art collective and design company Wall of Art is now presenting their new collection for spring and summer. The new Art Print collection consists of over 80 prints from 33 different artists, along with entirely new, exclusive silk scarves. The collection is inspired by the 60s and 70s and centered around flowers found in the often colorful interior design of that era.

In the campaign for the new collection, we visit 90-year-old Birgitta in a typical 60s home with beautifully preserved details. It's this type of warm home that forms the basis for the collection, where flowers are the common denominator. The collection consists of works from 33 different artists who have all used flowers as their subject, resulting in over 80 original prints with a variation in color and style.

With the new collection, Wall of Art takes a completely new step by launching scarves with exclusive prints by artists Hanna Peterson, Anna Mörner, Fabienne Meyer, and Mathilda Månsson. All scarves measure 66x66 cm and are perfect as either a fashionable accessory or as decoration hanging in the home.

“All the artists we have collaborated with have interpreted the theme with their own unique styles, and in this way, the new collection is clear but also has broad variation. There is an opportunity to find the perfect print for every room. We want art to be enjoyed everywhere, so launching scarves feels like a very fun step to bring art into the public space,” says Annika Hultgren & Nicklas Claesson, founders of Wall of Art.

    About the Scarves:

“Spring figures” by Hanna Peterson - “I had a vision that the print would be filled with lots of different patterns so that when the scarf is worn, it shows a more abstract image, but if it is hung up, the figurative motif of two people wrapped tightly together is shown. A warm 60s/70s color scheme and imaginary flowers together with checks and stripes were my keywords, and I added white and lemon yellow to achieve a warm yet fresh spring feeling.”

“Shades of Spring” by Anna Mörner - “The inspiration for my scarf is the soft spring and its first days. Chlorophyll/leaf green meets light yellow and is illustrated in the flowers painted in oil color. Recurring and characteristic of my work are the rippling leaves and organic forms that are definitely found in this motif.”

“Peter losing Wendy” by Fabienne Meyer - “The story of Peter Pan and its main theme is a story that I often think about lately. I wanted to explore the idea of growing up and leaving behind the innocence and wonder of childhood while still longing for its simple joys.”

“Mimosa” by Mathilda Månsson - “This is an acrylic painting inspired by the simple beauty of the blooming nature and my never-ending longing for the Mediterranean. The motif is a still life from my home with a renovated urn and this year's first Mimosa bouquet. The earth tones make me feel warm and calm, and after this painting, I actually booked a ticket to Italy.”

The new Art Print collection from Wall of Art is exclusively sold on wallofart.se from April 27th.

  • A Day's March x Lisa Larsson

    Written by Ulrika Lindqvist

“A Day's March introduces a collection created in collaboration with the artist Lisa Larsson. Together, they have created a collection where A Day's March's Scandinavian minimalism meets Lisa Larsson's colorful escapism.

Lisa Larsson's art revolves around peaceful and dreamy still lifes, relaxed women, and idyllic landscapes. The collection draws inspiration from the universe that Larsson has created with her countless paintings, and together with A Day's March, she has designed clothes and accessories that the faceless characters in her art can or should wear.

“I wanted to create clothes that you want to wear when summer days are long, warm, and full of life. When you wake up to the sea breeze from an open window, eat endlessly long lunches in the shade, and jump from cliffs into the salt Mediterranean. Like a real Bon Vivant, if you will. The collection is for these moments. The feeling of something handmade, but that you still don't have to be afraid to use and love. The collection is meant to be lived in, like a sybarite.

It has been a fantastic experience to work side by side with A Day's March. Their talented team has supported me in my artistic impulses and guided me through the jungle of clothing design. A Day's March was the perfect match for the collection I wanted to create, as they have a unique way of combining a relaxed look with a luxurious feel. They also have great knowledge and experience in working with high-quality and sustainable fabrics. It has truly been a pleasure to learn and create together with A Day's March.”

    Lisa Larsson x A Day's March launches on adaysmarch.com friday april  28th 2023.

  • Dusty Deco and MER Architects - paying tribute to Miles Davis

    Written by Fashion Tales

During this year's edition of Stockholm Design Week, the duo behind Dusty Deco released a limited handmade furniture collection in three parts. The design is provided by the architectural office MER Arkitekter and the collection is designed by Lucas Hinnerud.
The collaboration, which includes a sofa, armchair and loveseat, has its origins in the Swedish Grace style and has been combined with Dusty Deco's international design language. The collection is called Miles and is a tribute to the jazz legend Miles Davis and his iconic style.

You made this collection in tribute to Miles Davis the famous jazz musician, why Miles? What is it that made you inspired by him in particular?
Dusty Deco together with MER Arkitekter created this collection in tribute to Miles Davis to honor his iconic sense of style. Miles Davis is considered a reference point in men’s fashion, with an exceptional ability to combine different styles with great finesse. The inspiration for the Miles collection came from a picture of Miles Davis at his home in Malibu, where he was dressed in a zebra shirt standing in front of a zebra rug. This image conveyed an immediate sense of harmony and belonging between the two elements and served as the perfect inspiration for the Miles collection.

When you create your furniture, do you always consider where the material originates from, if it is ethically produced and if it is environmentally friendly?
It’s important to be mindful of the impact our work has on the environment and the people involved in the production process. We therefor strive to work with ethically and environmentally conscious suppliers and manufacturers. For the Miles collection, we worked with a small, family-owned business in Bulgaria that has been operating for three generations, and we were impressed with their craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The name Dusty Deco, how did you come up with that and what does it stand for?
We started our business 13 years ago with buying a bit too much vintage pieces for our own house. Both of us worked in fashion and just loved going to markets and buying beautiful objects and when our apartment and storage became too full, we started to sell things online. After a while we decided that we needed to do something more, so we borrowed a friend’s house In Barcelona for inspiration. After a bit too much wine and Dusty Springfield singing “Son of a Preacher Man” on the stereo we said almost at the same time, Dusty that’s a cool name! That’s how Dusty Deco was founded and now 13 years later we have five shops selling vintage furniture, a showroom in Mallorca and we are building our own brand.

Do you have a favorite piece of your collection? Which one and why?
That is a tough question, we love everything and for every new piece we are adding to the collection we love that a little extra until a new thing is added. Besides the zebra we have a new green onyx stone we are adding that is super cool and a new rug in earthy colors inspired from a wall in a the Bellver park in Mallorca we always go to.

What is your source of inspiration apart from jazz music?
Our inspiration stems from diverse sources - it’s a blend of life experiences, architectural designs, and furniture pieces that we’ve encountered over the years. It’s not just limited to what we’ve owned and let go of, but also extends to what we’ve seen in films that we adore, newspaper cuttings, and places we’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

Is the collection dedicated to certain houses, styles or environments?
We don’t have a certain house in mind when we think of new pieces, it is a mix of styles, timeera’s, we are slowly building our own DNA and look that could go in any environment, minimalist, maximalist or a chaotic home like our own. With this handmade collection, we teamed up with Lucas Hinnerud at MER Arkitekter who wanted to combine the classic Swedish Grace style with the essence of Dusty Deco and give the collection an international dress.                                                          We usually spend some time each season and dream up a person who lives and works with the collection. This spring, she is a well-traveled and decadent woman who quite spontaneously settled down in a shabby but noble house by the Mediterranean Sea sometime in the 70s. Possibly she’s on the riviera… She has inherited the house from her deceased husband, she has left some of the furniture and the heavy draperies in his memory. The rest she has thrown in there effortlessly without respect or thought, an armchair here and a marble table there and paintings on old nails. She has collected the art over the years from friends in the industry, some works are her own and some are gifts from old lovers.

    Balenciaga AW23 WINTER 23 COLLECTION

    Written by Fashion Tales

The Balenciaga Winter 23 Collection is presented in a minimalistic space enveloped in toile, a neutral canvas on which a synergy of enduring concepts is put into sharp focus.

Tailoring is deconstructed and reconstructed from pants, placing inverted waists at hems, or recasting them as cuffs, furthering an experimentation with hybridity. Pants are doubled, with legs draped over legs to create fluid motion. These concepts are applied to classic separates as well, in denim, leather, and outerwear cotton.

With inflatable forms sewn into their linings, a zip-up hoodie, a biker jacket, a tracksuit, and a puffer are reconstituted, transforming the body’s dimensions with reference to extreme athletics. Draped and gathered gowns in silk georgette are made dramatically asymmetrical, proposing new volumes.

Floral print plissé dresses in leather and lightweight textile, animal print leather trenches, and small-fit sweatsuits in jersey or velour are reconfigured to accentuate shoulders, creating a pronounced, rounded silhouette.

This shape, derived from Balenciaga Couture, translates to eveningwear as well, with floor-length gowns that are meticulously sequined, crystal-studded, layered with beaded fringe, knit with sparkling yarns, lace embroidered, hand-embellished with single drops of silicon, or cast in velvet, and tied at the waist with a satin bow.

The Huge Bag and an evolution of the Crush Bag are introduced in soft leather. The Biker Boot, a design based on motocross footwear, is seen with extreme sport detail and in monochrome. The Anatomic Boot traces the foot’s curvature and toes, in tube knit or spandex.
