Ilaria D’Atri was born in 1988 in Naples, Italy, where she attended the Art Lyceum. In 2010 she completed a BA in Photography at the European Institute of Design in Rome.

Working as a photographer and visual artist in London, D’Atri uses analog cameras with medium and large format instant film. She takes inspiration from classical culture and mythology and says she comes from a land where there has always been a strong connection between myth and reality. Her photography is an evocation of her imaginary mind, like an emotional river.

“Photography must be spontaneous and unplanned, without limits” says D’Atri. She believes in only two things: beauty and love. “Both are true and spontaneous for only a few seconds”, she says, describing her vision with a quote from Virginia Woolf: “I need someone whose mind falls like a chopper on a block; to whom the pitch of absurdity is sublime, and a shoestring adorable.”
