  • LOEWE PAULA´S IBIZA 2023

    Written by Ulrika Lindqvist

The liberated summer spirit that defines t he I biza m indset fi nds in mu sic an d it s
culture a veritable epicenter. Ibiza is the island where music catalyses creative
energies into an all-encompassing, laid-back lifestyle.

The new LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza collection is an homage to this unique attribute, building
on the fact that the original Paula’s Ibiza boutique, far from being a mere store, was in fact
a meeting point for all the creatives and the musicians that, over the years, made the island
their home and sent waves around the world.

Island life: that’s what makes Ibiza, Ibiza. Hours spent on the beach, on a boat or by the pool,
day and night, having fun in the glaring sun and in full contact with the elements. This ethos
permeates the collection, which is meant to be enjoyed in an island scenario or to give an
escapist vibration to summer in the city. There is an ease to the pieces that makes them
versatile and, with a stress on weaving, braiding and texture, aligns with LOEWE’s sense
of craft. Polo shirts, skirts, dresses are made in crochet, and some of them feature leaf
patches. Real alocasia leaves are morphed into tops. Solid surfaces in organic tones are
juxtaposed with vibrant prints. The LOEWE Anagram recurs as a motif, even on denim.
Satin lambskin is cut into slinky dresses. Jersey tops are immediate and easy. Fringes dance
along hemlines. Denim is a must for polos, Bermuda shorts, and micro shorts that are
an epitome of freedom and ease.

Woven raffia and Iraca palm are the protagonists of the accessories, with the launch of the
LOEWE Font Tote, available in three different sizes and featuring the logo spelled out loud,
the Petal Basket with its wavy profile, and colourful new iterarations of the Anagram basket.
The petite and practical Gardener Bucket is inspired by greenery. The capacious fold
shopper for men is apt for different uses, from beach to town. For adding a personalised
touch to bags, the collection also includes a wide selection of playful charms.
Summer life cannot do without sunglasses, which this season are particularly bold and
playful. The Wave Mask and Flame come in oversized shapes with padded contrast profiles.
Shoes round the looks off with panache: vulcanized Terra slip ons, Bubble slides in Extralight®
foam rubber with the logo popping on oversized tonal hardware. On the weaving and craft
side, there are espadrilles in an array of styles.

The accompanying visual portfolio, shot once again by Gray Sorrenti, is a celebration of island
life with the creative community that gathers around LOEWE. The images, captured outdoors
in Ibiza and Colombia, feature a cross section of international creatives and talents: Alewya,
Bad Gyal, Mason Hyce Barnes, Guitarricadelafuente, Emily Ratajkowski, Devin Halbal and
Karol G are portrayed in sun-drenched moments, simply having fun.

  • Levi’s Moves Forward with Plant-Based Dyes and Pigments, Organic & Transitional Cotton in the 2023 Spring/Summer WellThread® Capsule.

    Written by Ulrika Lindqvist

For decades, Levi’s has been a proud leader of sustainability efforts in fashion. Nowhere is that more apparent than
with Levi’s WellThread®, which leverages more sustainable design innovation that may reduce the adverse impact
of apparel production. From fibers and dyeing to garment finishing, water and resources are conserved at every step
during the manufacturing process. All WellThread® fabrics and garments are made in facilities that recycle their water,
and our wash formulas are developed to reduce their chemical, energy, and water impact. With longer term and
scalable changes in mind, WellThread® puts research and innovation at the forefront of its work.

Levi's WellThread® uses BioBlack TX by Nature Coatings in its prints, a plant-based pigment from wood waste.
This black pigment comes from FSC® certified sources and serves as a replacement for petroleum-derived carbon
black, which relies on the combustion of fossil fuels. BioBlack TX is produced through a closed-loop manufacturing
system, and it’s 100% bio-based. The pigment comes from upcycled wood waste that otherwise would be burned or
landfilled. Plant-based indigo dyes as well as organic and transitional cotton remain a centerpiece of this season’s
WellThread® capsule while adding plant-based black pigment to its portfolio.

After launching the Levi’s® WellThread® Transitional Cotton program in 2020, Levi’s has continued to work with small
shareholder farmers in India as they transition their fields to a production system that sustains the health of soils,
ecosystems, and people by relying on ecological processes, biodiversity and farming cycles adapted to local
conditions. The brand is supporting these farmers during this transition by committing to the purchase of their
transitional cotton crop - reducing their financial risk during the transition period to organic farming.

These breakthroughs have been implemented in the ‘23 Spring/Summer Levi’s WellThread capsule, styled for
longevity. For women, the assortment includes the Baggy Dad, a loose and relaxed fitting pair of jeans, and the iconic
Type II Trucker, a boxy silhouette with denim covered snaps. New additions include the 80s Mom Shorts and a slim
denim shirt with denim-covered snaps. Men’s fits for the assortment include the 551Z and 502 in denim, the Loose
Chino Crop in printed denim, and the Vintage Trucker with organic cotton and plant-based dyes. With Levi’s
WellThread®, everyone can wear their values with tried and true iconic styles that will stand the test of time.

Our goal is to develop more sustainable methods to make high-quality, beautiful clothing that will endure both
emotionally and physically,” said Paul Dillinger, Vice President, Head of Global Product Innovation at Levi Strauss &
Co. “Through WellThread®, Levi’s has demonstrated a firm commitment to supporting research efforts for new
processes and resources to be scaled and shared with the world. Collaboration is a key element in all of our work
and we’re grateful to all of the farmers, designers, and material scientists who contributed to the breakthroughs that
    will help protect our planet.”

    Artwork by Alicia

This year's edition of Stockholm Art Week takes place between May 9th-14th. The purpose is to unite Stockholm's art scene and highlight Stockholm as a vibrant art city and Sweden as an art destination. The city's museums, institutions, galleries, and other actors in the art industry come together during this week.

On Tuesday, May 9th, at 5:00 pm, the Stockholm Art Week will be inaugurated by Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand. The inauguration takes place at Hospitalet, with Stefan Hagdahl, head of Stockholm Konst, and Joanna Sundström, head and initiator of Stockholm Art Week, also in attendance.

“Without art, we go crazy, and I am convinced that art and culture are needed for an open, curious, and functioning society.” - Joanna Sundström

The Nordic region's leading contemporary art fair, Market Art Fair, takes place at Liljevalchs and expands its exhibition area to Spritmuseum. Across the water, the Supermarket art fair flexes its muscles and moves into Stadshusterminalen. Moderna Museet has a vernissage for Monica Sjöö, while Carl Elds Ateljémuseum opens its summer exhibition with Ingela Ihrman.

Among the galleries, we see vernissages with Jim Torell at Loyal Gallery and with Sarah Crowner at Nordenhake. On Saturday, the galleries of Östermalm, Andréhn-Schiptjenko, Saskia Neuman Gallery, Odem Atelier, Carling Dalenson Gallery, Public Service, and Galleri Glas invite guests to breakfast viewings. Galleri Sebastian Schildt has a vernissage for its group exhibition “L'heure Bleue” and offers several artist talks.

The artist initiative Black Iris moves into Castellum's premises in the old Gasverket on Torsgatan and arranges the exhibition “Explosive Vison.” A “home exhibition” is shown at stockholmmodern with Lotta Antonsson. Svenska Brasserier sets up vernissages at almost all of its restaurants. At Alma, the Danish gallery V1 Gallery opens an exhibition with Lulu Kaalund as well as Fredrik Nystrup & Oliver Sundqvist.

This is a selection from the week. The calendar in its entirety can be found on the Stockholm Art Week website and is continuously updated.
